What happens

Newlyweds David and Anne Smith, a Hollywood-style couple with a set of rules for marriage, learn that their wedding may never have been legal after all, since their town was in the wrong state. David is a lawyer, and his partner Jeff Custer is quietly courting Anne. The story follows a series of comic misunderstandings as the couple's rules and feelings are tested. This is a Screen Directors Playhouse presentation from NBC, first aired on 1949-01-30, starring Robert Montgomery and Mary Jane Croft, and introducing director Alfred Hitchcock.

Characters: David Smith, Anne Smith, Jeff Custer, Mr. Deaver

Listen for: The rules the couple follow and the mix-up over their marriage license

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
