What happens

Ranger Bill and his fellow rangers, Henry, Stumpy and Gray Wolf, are patrolling their district before the tourist season. Stumpy's horse, Matilda, falls into a hole and breaks her leg in two places, in dense woods far from any road. The rangers discuss whether she can be saved or must be shot, and Stumpy pleads for her life. Ranger Bill arranges for a veterinarian, Doc Waters, to be flown in by helicopter, and the rangers begin working out how to lift the injured horse out of the trees. The episode is part of the Ranger Bill series and was first broadcast on April 30, 1958.

A wooded district in the mountains, where rangers patrol trails and prepare for the arrival of tourists.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
