What happens

Henry and Jack, two young helpers at the Ranger Station, receive a shipment of weather balloon equipment while Ranger Bill is away in Washington. Left alone with the crates, they open one, unpack the balloon and gondola, and decide to inflate it to see how it looks. Officer Orrk arrives and admires the balloon, and the boys then release it, which carries them skyward. Their predicament grows as the balloon drifts over the mountains, and they must confront the consequences of their choices.

The Ranger Station in Washington and the surrounding countryside, including the mountains beyond the town.

Characters: Henry, Jack, Ranger Bill, Officer Orrk, Great Wolf

Listen for: Listen for the moment the boys decide to inflate the balloon despite Jack's and Henry's earlier caution, and for Officer Orrk's arrival at the station.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
