What happens
Ranger Bill tells his rangers that a special representative of the President, with a group from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, will tour the district, and that twenty-five men will form an honor guard. Frank and Heavy, two rangers who have grown stout, are eager for the place, and their wives Peg and Hannah worry about the strain on their husbands. Bill orders a strict diet and exercise program for every overweight ranger, and the two men struggle with hunger. When they protest, Bill reveals that the wives will be asked to host the special dinner, and the men's efforts win them a joint place among the honor guard.
The Naughty Pine ranger district, a woodland district in the mountains, where rangers patrol on horseback and by car and keep in touch by telephone.
