What happens
Ranger Bill, a radio series, follows Elf Jefferson and his partner Les, who haul nitroglycerin by night from the mountain mines to the town of Landslide. After Les dies when his truck runs away down the grade, the mayor bans explosive trucks from the town. Elf's old customer Pete insists on a delivery, and Elf sets out on the county trunk road. Ranger Bill and his friends follow him, and the episode ends at the roadside with the explosive cargo.
A mountain mining region and the town of Landslide, with the big grizzly mines and the old county trunk road.
Characters: Ranger Bill, Elf, Les, Bruno, Stumpy, Henry, Graywolf, Pete
Listen for: The announcer's scene-setting near the start, and the careful, tense work of unloading the nitroglycerin.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
