What happens

Ranger Bill investigates a dispute in Naughty Pine over whether the city should fence off the banks of the Shady River after children are endangered by drifting ice. The city council argues over who should pay for the fence, while Rick Holmes falls through the ice and Bill rescues him. Later, Gene and Stan become stranded on a drifting ice floe, and Fred Petrie, a councilman, races to reach them. The story follows the rescue efforts and the council's deliberations as the town's conflict over the river grows more urgent.

The city of Naughty Pine, along the swift Shady River and its icy banks, in winter.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
