What happens

Phil Harris is left in charge of the house and the children while his wife Alice is away on vacation in Palm Springs, and a promised housekeeper has not arrived. Phil and his friend Frankie, a fellow member of his band, try to cook lunch and do the laundry, with messy results. Later Phil goes to the children's school to argue about their suspension over a library book, and the visit turns into a series of confused exchanges with the teacher and principal. The Phil Harris series aired on NBC, and this episode is from January 27, 1952, with Phil Harris and Alice Faye among its stars.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
