What happens
Phil Harris and Alice Faye are about to sign a radio contract with RCA Victor, represented by Mr. Phillips, but the company refuses to hire their comic sidekick Frankie Remley. Phil struggles with the decision, since Frankie has been with him for eighteen years, and the couple's family and friends weigh in. Phil's brother-in-law Willie adds pressure, while Frankie offers to step aside so Phil and Alice can take the job. Frankie then brings the pair a string of unsuitable sponsors, each more absurd than the last, as the day moves toward the three o'clock deadline.
New York, in the offices of the RCA Victor Company and in the Harris household, during a single day when the new sponsor contract is due to be signed.
Characters: Phil Harris, Alice Faye, Frankie Remley, Mr. Phillips, Willie, Julius, Curly, Mr. Grogan
Listen for: Phil's decision about whether to sign without Frankie, and the sponsor meetings Frankie arranges.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
