What happens

Phil Harris and Alice Faye star in this episode of The Phil Harris-Alice Faye Show, first broadcast on NBC on April 24, 1949. Twentieth Century Fox executives want Alice to return to making movies, and they court Phil with a screen test he believes is for a starring role. Phil is convinced his talents will make him a great dramatic actor, while Alice worries about the studio taking advantage of him. Frankie Remley and Willie Hooper join the household's back-and-forth as Phil and Alice argue about the offer. The studio scene that follows shows the screen test, which turns out to be a small part rather than the lead Phil had imagined.

Characters: Phil Harris, Alice Faye, Frankie Remley, Willie, Darryl Zanuck, Spyros, Julius

Listen for: Phil's insistence that he will be a great dramatic actor, and the screen test scene where Phil plays the jealous husband

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
