What happens
Phil Harris and his family read the morning papers at home when they learn that Benny Goodman and Guy Lombardo have been invited to play at President Truman's inaugural ball, but Phil's band has not. Phil feels slighted and grows dejected, while his wife Alice urges him to let the matter go. His musicians, led by Frankie and Remley, encourage him to take action. The series The Phil Harris-Alice Faye Show was first broadcast on NBC on January 16, 1949, and stars Phil Harris and Alice Faye.
The Harris home, and later a drugstore on a street corner
Characters: Phil Harris, Alice Faye, Frankie Remley, Julius, Walter Tetley
Listen for: Phil's attempt to call the White House and the surprise invitation that arrives by telegram
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
