What happens
Phil Harris and Elliott Lewis set out to buy a birthday present for Phil's daughter, Little Alice, who turns fourteen. Elliott persuades Curly Harris to join him in a scheme involving an old map to a barrel of uranium said to lie in shallow water, and they start looking for deep-sea diving helmets at a department store. Phil takes the family's shopping trip seriously, but the two men keep turning the errand toward their own schemes. The Phil Harris Show, a comedy series on NBC, aired this episode on November 20, 1953, with Phil Harris and Alice Faye in the leads.
A home in Los Angeles, and a department store and its music department.
Characters: Phil Harris, Alice Faye, Elliott Lewis, Little Alice, Curly, Julius Abruzzio
Listen for: Elliott's pitch about the uranium map and the diving helmets, and the store clerk's dealings with the two men.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
