What happens

Phil Harris and Elliot Lewis, two carefree men about town, pool their money to buy a racehorse named Blue Blazes at Santa Anita. Phil's wife Alice Faye grows suspicious of the purchase, and Phil's spending habits already worry her. When the horse is revealed to be an oddly shaped animal under a blanket, the friends scramble to find a jockey and prepare for a match race against their rival Willie. Julius, the mail carrier, is recruited to ride. The episode is a comedy of wagering and bluster from the Phil Harris show, a program of NBC radio, first broadcast on October 2, 1953. Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
