What happens
Miss Brooks, an English teacher at Madison High School, has planned to celebrate New Year's Eve with Mr. Boynton, a fellow teacher. When he reveals he cannot afford the club ticket for their evening and asks her to pay her own way, her plans fall apart. Mr. Conklin, the school principal, then asks her to babysit his nephew Stevie for a few hours while he attends a dinner, offering five dollars. Miss Brooks accepts so she can buy her own ticket. The episode is an installment of the Our Miss Brooks series, starring Eve Arden, with Gale Gordon, Jeff Chandler and Richard Crenna in the cast, and its original broadcast on CBS Radio was on January 1, 1950.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
