What happens

On her grandmother's 100th birthday at the Harrys' Cumberland house, Vanessa Harrys is drawn to her cousin Benji, a restless young man the family distrusts. The two become secretly engaged, a bond tested by a fire at the family estate, and then by Benji's unexpected return and confession. Vanessa turns to her cousin Ellis, whose devotion is steady but strained, and their marriage grows heavy with suspicion and unhappiness. The transcript covers only part of the story, which is presented on The Campbell Playhouse as a dramatization of Vanessa, starring Helen Hayes and Orson Welles, and broadcast on The Mercury Theatre on the Air series.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
