What happens
Detective Bill Reardon and his wife Sally run a struggling agency in New York and are behind on their rent. A client, Mrs. Frazier, hires them to shadow Anne Calhoun, whom she believes is secretly involved with her husband. That night at the Skyline Club, the Reardons end up at a nearby table and overhear tense talk between Jerry Marlow, Anne Calhoun and the Frazier couple. Soon after, Walter Frazier is found shot dead in Marlow's apartment. The broadcast's first part follows the Reardons as the investigation begins to tangle them in the case. The Campbell Playhouse production, presented by Orson Welles, aired on the Mercury Theatre on the Air series on December 17, 1939.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
