What happens

Robert Conway, a British consul, is one of four passengers on a flight that crashes in the Himalayas after being hijacked. Conway's companions are Mallinson, Miss Brinklow and Barnard, and the transcript shows them stranded in the mountains until a group of guides from a hidden valley brings them to the lamasery of Shangri-La. There the lama Chang welcomes them, and the group settles in to hear the story of the community and of the lama who founded it. This adaptation of James Hilton's novel Lost Horizon was broadcast on The Mercury Theatre on the Air, with Orson Welles as producer, on December 3, 1939.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
