What happens

Painter David Martin and Mary Reynolds meet by chance on a Italian street, when she is searching for the American Express office. They fall in love and spend idyllic weeks together. Later, David wants to return to painting in Paris, while Mary hopes to pursue her own singing. Their quarrel over her career and his work leads to a painful parting. The story is told through a series of memories as David, now alone in a rooming house in New York, recalls the time they shared. Peter Van Eyck stars in this episode of the Obsession series, which was broadcast by AFRS.

A rooming house on East 30s off 2nd Avenue in Manhattan on a summer evening, with flashbacks to Italy, Paris and a voyage home.

Characters: David Martin, Mary Reynolds, Mrs. Faulkner, Mrs. Briggs, Mr. Martin, Pietro Camroni, Leslie Marshall

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
