What happens

Nick Carter is hired by Mr. Fenrus, owner of an exclusive fashion store, who claims to be blackmailed by Mary Danville over stolen dress designs. When Nick visits the apartment shared by Mary and her roommate Sally Carlisle, he discovers Mary's body in her bedroom—shot through the temple. Jerry Bartlett, the store's fashion designer, arrives at the apartment armed and discovers the detectives already inside.
