What happens

Nick Carter investigates a series of thefts at Nelson Stroud's jewelry store where 29 real diamonds have been systematically replaced with paste imitations. After testing the clerks with a fake robbery and discovering a diamond hidden in chewing gum, Nick uncovers a clever scheme involving two criminals and the unwitting participation of the store owner himself.

Nelson Stroud's jewelry store in the city, and later Ryan's apartment at 1753 North Garvin Street.

Characters: Nick Carter, Patsy, Nelson Stroud, Bill Devlin, Arthur Ryan, Robert Hill, Morgan, Sergeant Matheson

Listen for: The explanation of how the thieves used an overcoat pocket as a transfer point for stolen diamonds, and Nick's clever deduction that one of the clerks must have known about the fake stones.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
