What happens

Nick Carter investigates the murder of Stan Powers, a pool room operator, who is found dead with a knife in his back. A 16-year-old boy named Billy Turner was last seen at Powers' establishment, and evidence at the scene—including a cigarette lighter and a horn-handled knife with face powder on it—points in puzzling directions. Nick must determine whether Billy is guilty, a witness, or an innocent pawn caught in a dangerous situation.

A slum district pool room and its back room, where Stan Powers operates his business; the streets and Nick's office.

Characters: Nick Carter, Patsy Bowen, Roy Turner, Billy Turner, Stan Powers, Crow Jackson, Matty (police officer)

Listen for: The discovery of the horn-handled knife with white face powder on its handle, suggesting a woman's involvement; the missing $7,000 from the supermarket heist; the cigarette lighter traced to Billy Turner; and Nick's theory that the powder on the knife may be more important than finding Crow.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
