What happens
On the tenth wedding anniversary of Liz and George Cooper, Liz is delighted and expects a gift. George, who has forgotten the date, tries to cover up, and the couple agrees to a five-dollar spending limit for their presents. Liz picks out a tin-themed gift while George is sent to shop with his friend Mr. Atterbury, whose own wife is due a fur coat. A mix-up at the store sends the wrong package to the Cooper home, and Liz is soon wearing an expensive mink coat she believes is her present. The episode is an audition for the series, which stars Lucille Ball and Richard Denning.
The Cooper household and a department store in 1940s America, on the Coopers' tenth wedding anniversary.
Characters: Liz Cooper, George Cooper, Katie, Mr. Atterbury, Iris
Listen for: Liz's delight over the mink coat and George's growing panic as he tries to confess the mix-up.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
