What happens
Ken Thurston, the man called X, takes passage on a Java Sea cargo liner from Makassar to Batavia after a mysterious phone call points him toward the international criminal known as the Fishpeddler. Ken lets his true identity become known to the passengers, hoping to draw the criminal into the open. Soon Captain Jansen's daughter Johanna is found badly injured outside Ken's cabin, and the ship's engines stop as the crew is locked below decks. Ken and the captain work to regain control of the ship while suspicion falls on the passengers. This is an episode of The Man Called X, the Columbia Broadcasting System series starring Herbert Marshall, first broadcast on February 1, 1948.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
