What happens
Sarah and Yetta, the daughters of the Bloom family, want new dresses for a party on Saturday night. While their mother is out playing bridge at Mrs. Fine's, the girls plot how best to ask their father, Jacob, for the money. Jacob arrives home tired and irritable, and the girls try to win him over with small kindnesses before making their request. He resists at first, complaining about the cost and the number of new dresses they already own, and the girls argue back. The conversation shows the family's friction over money, appearances and comparisons with the neighbours, including the Markowitz family.
The Bloom family home in the evening, while Mama is out playing bridge and Papa returns from business.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
