What happens
Joan Gregory pilots a stolen Euclidean submarine toward the surface, carrying Jerry, Mrs. Gregory and Captain Bradford to safety. The vessel is wildly unstable without its stern fins, and the passengers are thrown about as it heads for Los Angeles. The group debates how the enemy might have tracked and sabotaged Johnson's radio, and Joan argues for a theory about how it was done. Mrs. Gregory and Jerry grow seasick, while Joan and Captain Bradford remain steady. The Magic Island series is the setting, with Joan and her companions aboard the submarine.
