What happens
Tony Kirby, son of a wealthy banker, falls for Alice Sycamore, a young woman from the eccentric Vanderhof household, whose family does exactly what it pleases. The Lux Radio Theatre presents this adaptation of George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart's play You Can't Take It With You, broadcast on October 2, 1939, with Edward Arnold, Walter Connolly, Fay Ray and Robert Cummings in the leading roles. Banker Kirby is pressing to buy a block of property, and meanwhile Tony meets Grandpa Vanderhof and the family, and the couple's romance develops against the family's unusual habits. This guide covers only the opening portion of the broadcast.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
