What happens
Helen Bartlett, a lively young wife, lies with good intentions and frequently gets her lawyer husband Kenneth Bartlett into trouble in New York City. Helen takes a secret job as secretary to Otto Krayler, an old acquaintance of her late father, and is shocked when she finds Krayler dead in his office. Police arrest Helen and Kenneth, and the case against them quickly grows. This episode of Lux Radio Theatre presents the 1940 adaptation of True Confession, starring Loretta Young and Fred MacMurray with Ruth Donnelly as Daisy.
New York City, in a modest office building, Kenneth Bartlett's law office, the Bartletts' apartment, Krayler's office, and a city jail.
Characters: Helen Bartlett, Kenneth Bartlett, Daisy, Otto Krayler, Detective Dosti, Mr. McDougall
Listen for: Helen's increasingly tangled lies, Kenneth's reaction on learning of the case against them, and the detective's accusations against Helen.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
