What happens
Elizabeth McDonald, widowed weeks after the Armistice of 1918 and pregnant, is taken in by Larry Hamilton and his aunt Jessie in their Baltimore home. Years later, Elizabeth has built a new life with Larry and their sons, while a disfigured, crippled German-born chemist named Eric Kessler arrives in town to join Larry's firm. Kessler carries a worn letter from Elizabeth and keeps a secret of his own. The episode is from the Lux Radio Theatre series, broadcast on May 6, 1946, and stars Claudette Colbert and Van Heflin, with Richard Long and Natalie Wood in supporting roles.
Baltimore, Maryland, from 1918 through the late 1930s, including a German hospital and the Hamilton family home.

Listen for: Kessler's first meeting with the Hamilton family at dinner, and Drew's announcement of his plan to join the Royal Air Force.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
