What happens

Eddie York and his friend Chuck Gibson, two former soldiers, are pursued by bookmaker Elias Arnold, who believes Eddie is Francis Pemberton, a man who owes him $12,000 from a racetrack bet. Mistaking Eddie for Pemberton, the pair go to the Pemberton estate on Long Island, where Eddie is taken in by the family. Joan, Grandpa and the household treat him as Francis, and Eddie is drawn into a tangle of family relations, a custody dispute over a young girl named Susan, and a safe holding money. Lux Radio Theatre presents this adaptation of the 1946 Columbia Pictures comedy Pardon My Past, starring Fred MacMurray and Marguerite Chapman. The broadcast aired on May 13, 1946.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
