What happens

Janie, a young woman in a small town, is courted by two men at once: Tom, a car salesman who has just been promoted and proposes to her, and Harry, a mechanic she meets by chance after a dinner date falls through. Janie must weigh Tom's steady prospects against Harry's warm, unpretentious manner. The Lux Radio Theatre presents this 1941 production, an adaptation of the RKO film, as part of its eighth season. Ginger Rogers stars as Janie, with George Murphy as Tom, Alan Marshall as Dick, and Burgess Meredith as Harry. The guide covers only the opening portion of the broadcast, in which the three men and Janie's romantic choices are first set out.

A small town in the United States, including the Strand movie theater, an ice cream stand, a car dealership, and a bowling alley.

Characters: Janie, Tom, Harry, Dick, Mr. Burton, Jamie's mother, Barbara

Listen for: Janie's conflicting feelings as Tom proposes and Harry appears, and Harry's argument about ambition and money.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
