What happens

Conway, a former British consul, and his companions survive a forced landing high in the Himalayas after their plane is hijacked. Guided by a Chinese man named Chang, they travel to the Lamasery of Shangri-La, a hidden valley beneath the peak of Karakal. The Lux Radio Theatre production of James Hilton's novel Lost Horizon, broadcast on September 15, 1941, stars Ronald Coleman as Conway, with Donald Crisp and Lynn Carver. Conway and his party find the monastery's calm and its rich art and library unexpected, and they begin to question their captors' intentions and their own plans to leave.

Listen for: The first sight of Shangri-La from the valley and Conway's growing attraction to its peace and beauty

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
