What happens
Will Rogers Jr. and Jane Wyman star in this Lux Radio Theatre production of The Will Rogers Story, broadcast January 12, 1953. Will Rogers, a restless young cowboy in Oklahoma Indian Territory, is the son of a respected senator of the Cherokee Nation and struggles to find his place. He meets Betty Blake at the Oklahoma railroad station, and the two gradually fall in love. Will keeps leaving on travels with his friend Dusty, performing as a roper in a Wild West show, while Betty waits. Their marriage brings new strains as Will chases a career on the stage in New York. The story follows the couple as they face money troubles and an unexpected event that shapes their future.
Oklahoma Indian Territory and Ulaga, early 1900s, then travels to St. Louis, New Orleans, and New York
Characters: Will Rogers, Betty Blake, Dusty, Paul Rogers, Sally, Tom, Dave, Cora
Listen for: Will's tall-tale humor and roping act, and Betty's warm patience as Will leaves on his travels
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
