What happens
Sir Alan Dearden, a London barrister, is visited on a Mayfair bridle path by a stranger, Frank Lewis, who claims to hold letters written to Lady Dearden, Helen, before her marriage. Lewis demands two thousand pounds for them, and the story turns on a blackmail scheme carried out through a series of instructions and a bag hidden at Dover. Alan is later drawn into a murder case, the trial of Medford, whose wife died in a fall from a Dover cliff. The episode is the Lux Radio Theatre production of The Unguarded Hour, first broadcast December 4, 1944, starring Robert Montgomery, Lorraine Day and Roland Young. The transcript covers only the first two acts.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
