What happens

Leslie Calvin, a young woman who survived the sinking of the steamship Valdera, arrives at her aunt and uncle's sugar plantation in the Louisiana bayou country, where she has never met them. Her relatives, Emily and Norbert Lamont, welcome her warmly, but she finds the household strange and the surrounding swamps unsettling. Dr. Grover, a local physician, drives her around the countryside and soon becomes a close companion. Leslie's nightmares and nervous fears continue as she tries to settle into her new home. Lux Radio Theatre presented this adaptation of the 1944 film Dark Waters, starring Merle Oberon, Thomas Mitchell and Preston Foster, on November 27, 1944. The episode is part way through its story.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
