What happens

Fred C. Dobbs, a drifter in Mexico, meets an old prospector named Howard, who warns him about the greed that gold brings. After winning a lottery ticket, Dobbs pools his winnings with two other men, Curtin and Howard, to fund a prospecting trip into the Sierra Madre mountains. The partners make their way into rough, unmapped country, where hardship tests their trust. Their first finds and early arrangements over dividing the gold reveal the suspicion that is growing among them. This Lux Radio Theatre production, broadcast on February 15, 1955, stars Edmond O'Brien and Walter Brennan.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
