What happens

Astrophysicist Clayton Forrester and his colleague Dr. Pierce are sent to examine a meteorite that has landed in the mountains near Linda Rosa, California. Forrester meets Sylvia Van Buren, whose uncle, Dr. Collins, is the local minister. The meteorite proves radioactive and begins to move, and the men find that the strange object is a machine. This Lux Radio Theatre production stars Dana Andrews as Clayton and Pat Crowley as Sylvia, and is adapted from the H. G. Wells novel. The episode was broadcast on February 8, 1955.

Mountains near Linda Rosa, California, and later the Los Angeles area, during a summer evening and the days that follow

Characters: Clayton Forrester, Sylvia Van Buren, Dr. Collins, Sheriff, Dr. Pierce

Listen for: The meteorite's movement and the sound of the machines, and Clayton's reaction as the men realize the object is from another world

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
