What happens
Joe Starrett and his wife Marian are homesteaders in a Wyoming valley, fighting to keep their land against Riker, a cattle baron who wants the range for his herd. Joe's young son Joey idolizes a stranger named Shane, a quiet drifter who takes work on the farm and wears two guns. The Lux Radio Theatre adaptation of the Jack Schaefer novel was broadcast on February 22, 1955, with Alan Ladd in the title role and Van Heflin as Joe Starrett, alongside Ruth Hussey as Marian. Tensions with the Riker brothers rise as the homesteaders plan to stand together against them.
A high valley in the Wyoming mountains, where homesteaders farm among cattle ranges, with the frontier town of Grafton's general store nearby.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
