What happens

Bishop Henry Brougham is overworked and strained as he struggles to raise funds for a new cathedral, while his wife Julia feels neglected. A mysterious and charming stranger named Dudley arrives, claiming to be an angel sent to help the bishop. Dudley becomes a close presence in the Brougham household, befriending Julia and their young daughter Debbie, and gradually reshapes the bishop's priorities. The Lux Radio Theatre broadcast presents a radio version of the story, starring Cary Grant and Phillips Baxter, based on the film The Bishop's Wife.

A large city in December, including the Brougham home, the cathedral committee's offices, a restaurant, and a park.

Characters: Bishop Henry Brougham, Julia Brougham, Dudley, Debbie, Professor Wutheridge, Mrs. Hamilton, Matilda, Miss Cantonese

Listen for: Dudley's first meeting with Henry in the study, and his conversations with Julia about her marriage.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
