What happens

In the Portuguese countryside around Fatima, young shepherd children Lucia, Francisco and Jacinta say they have seen a lady from heaven while tending their sheep. Lucia's mother doubts the story and the village priest, Father Pereira, advises that the matter be ignored. As word spreads, crowds gather at the Cova, local officials step in, and the children face pressure from their families, the church and the government. This episode from the Lux Radio Theatre, first broadcast on March 30, 1953, stars Jeanette Nolan and Susan Whitney, with Jay Carroll Nash in the role of Hugo. The story is told in the present tense as the children and the adults around them respond to the growing uproar.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
