What happens

Charles Pike, a young scientist returning from the Amazon, is drawn into a card-sharp scheme when he meets Jean Harrington aboard the steamship Southern Queen. Jean and her father, Colonel Harrington, plan to win Pike's fortune through cards and deception, but Jean begins to fall in love with him. Pike's pursuit of snakes and his cabin encounters add tension, while a set of card games, a debt, and a private confession complicate the couple's dealings. Later, Pike learns the truth about the Harringtons from a photograph, and Jean's feelings meet his hurt. The series is Lux Radio Theatre, and this production of The Lady Eve aired on March 9, 1942, starring Barbara Stanwyck, Ray Milland and Charles Coburn.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
