What happens
Jack Robin, a young singer in a Broadway revue, is given a new song that was meant for a fellow performer, and he prepares for the New York opening. Earlier he visits his parents on New York's East Side, where his father, the cantor, is distant and disapproving of his jazz singing and his son's theater career. Mary Dale, a fellow performer who has helped him, grows close to him as opening night approaches. This is Lux Radio Theatre's 1947 presentation of The Jazz Singer, starring Al Jolson and Gail Patrick, first broadcast on June 2, 1947.

Characters: Jack Robin, Mary Dale, Mr. Stevens, Cantor Rabinovitch, Sara Rabinovitch, Mr. Yudelson, Bill Carter
Listen for: The tension between Jack's stage career and his father's expectations, and the Yom Kippur request that puts the two worlds in conflict.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
