What happens
James Bowie, a young frontiersman newly arrived in New Orleans, meets the painter John James Audubon after colliding with him in the French Quarter. Their acquaintance draws Bowie into the social circle of Madame Lucinda de Bonne, a proud and beautiful woman whose portrait Audubon is painting. Her brother Philip Cabanné takes offence at Bowie over a quarrel, and the rivalry escalates into a challenge. Presented on the Lux Radio Theatre, the broadcast of December 28, 1954 adapts the story of Bowie's romantic and dangerous life, with Virginia Mayo as Madame de Bonne and John Lund as Bowie.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
