What happens

Chris Kringle, a gentleman who insists he is Santa Claus, works as Santa at Macy's department store in New York City at Christmas. Store personnel manager Mr. Shellhammer worries about his mental state and asks Doris Walker, a Macy's employee, to help. Her daughter Susan, who has been taught to accept only what is real, befriends him and invites him to Thanksgiving dinner. The story is part of the Lux Radio Theatre series, adapted from the 1947 film Miracle on 34th Street, and this broadcast aired on 21 December 1954. Doris's concerns about Chris grow, and a psychiatrist's examination of him is arranged. Chris is eventually brought before a court for a sanity hearing.

New York City, around Thanksgiving and Christmas, including Macy's department store, the Walker apartment and a courtroom.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
