What happens

Hannah Hoyt, a woman of 109, lives in seclusion in Hoyt City while reporters press her for the truth about her late husband, the city's founder Ethan Hoyt. Refusing to answer their questions, she recalls their youth in Philadelphia, where she first met the restless Ethan. Their courtship leads to a hurried marriage and a westward journey by covered wagon toward the prairie, where Ethan dreams of founding a great city. The episode, the second act of which is presented here, is part of the Lux Radio Theatre series and is a radio adaptation of the 1942 Paramount film The Great Man's Lady, starring Barbara Stanwick, Joseph Cotton and Chester Morris. Cecil B. DeMille introduces the program, which originally aired on June 28, 1943.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
