What happens

Dr. Bradford, a surgeon, is served with a subpoena by his ex-wife Paula, a mystery writer, who demands unpaid alimony and then moves into his home. The jockey Eddie Sands has died suddenly during a race, and the trainer Mike North doubts the official heart-failure verdict. Bradford examines the body and finds a sticky substance, and the case draws the couple into a series of threats and a murder at his door. William Powell and Claudette Colbert star in this Lux Radio Theatre production, which was broadcast on June 19, 1939, and is adapted from a story by the same name. The episode, in its first half, follows the couple as they pursue the racetrack death and begin to suspect the people around it.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
