What happens
In the New England town of Middale in February 1922, Paul Ward, a struggling teacher and amateur inventor, and his wife Marsha face mounting bills while their daughter Sally goes off to school. A quiet woman named Hannah arrives at their door selling apple peelers, and she ends up cooking dinner and staying on in the household. Hannah lifts the family's spirits and gradually befriends Peter Trimble, one of Paul's difficult pupils, who joins Paul in his laboratory work. The play is Lux Radio Theatre's adaptation of Lloyd C. Douglas's novel, broadcast on June 12, 1939, with Faye Bainter, Lewis Stone and Jackie Cooper starring. The story is still unfolding at this point.

Listen for: Hannah's first arrival at the Ward door and the family dinner that follows
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
