What happens

In 1815, Edmund Dantes, first mate of the merchant ship Pharaon, is falsely accused of carrying a treasonous letter from Elba, the island where Napoleon is exiled. Jealous rivals Danglars and Fernand Mondego conspire against him, and the king's magistrate Villefort has him arrested on the eve of his wedding to Mercedes. The Lux Radio Theatre presents Robert Montgomery and Josephine Hutchinson in this adaptation of Alexandre Dumas's novel, with Louis Stone, Lloyd Nolan, Sidney Blackmer and Paul Lucas in supporting roles. The episode's first part covers Dantes's arrest and trial, then his eight years of imprisonment at the Chateau d'If, where he meets a fellow prisoner.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
