What happens

A wandering printer known as the Arkansas Traveler drifts into a small Midwestern town and finds work at the struggling Daily Record, owned by Martha Allen. There he meets Johnny Daniels, who has returned after years away, and Judy, the publisher's daughter, whose history with Johnny is tangled. Johnny's bitter feud with his father, the town's mayor, and with Matt Collins shapes the trouble that follows. The Lux Radio Theatre production, presented in Hollywood with Bob Burns and Faye Bainter, followed the film's cast of Gene Parker and Dickie Moore. Its original air date was January 30, 1939. Martha must decide whether to keep the paper alive as its advertisers begin to pull out.

A small town in the Middle West, with a local newspaper, a railroad line and the town's businesses.

Characters: Traveler, Martha Allen, Johnny Daniels, Judy, Benny, Matt Collins, Mr. Collins

Listen for: The Traveler's arrival by freight train and his work setting type at the Daily Record.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
