What happens
Lady Jessica de Canterville, a seven-year-old girl, learns that American soldiers are to be billeted in the ancient Canterville Castle, which is haunted by the ghost of Sir Simon, a cowardly nobleman walled up centuries earlier. Private Cuffy Williams is among the soldiers who encounter the ghost, and Jessica soon befriends Sir Simon, who is weary of his centuries of haunting. This episode of the Lux Radio Theatre, first broadcast on June 18, 1945, stars Charles Laughton, Margaret O'Brien and Tom Drake. Sir Simon has learned that a kinsman who performs a brave deed in his name can release him, and Jessica and Cuffy begin to consider whether Cuffy might be that kinsman.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
