What happens
Private detective Philip Marlowe is hired by Moose Malloy, a huge man searching for his former sweetheart Velma, and then by a stranger who wants him to drive along to buy back stolen jewels. The buyer is found dead on a lonely canyon road near Malibu, and Marlowe is left to explain himself to Inspector Randall. Soon he is drawn into the Grayle household in Brentwood, where the missing necklace of jade, the grieving family and the clairvoyant Jules Amthor all become tangled together. The episode is the Lux Radio Theatre adaptation of Raymond Chandler's novel, broadcast on June 11, 1945, with Dick Powell as Marlowe, Claire Trevor, June Duprez and Mike Mazurki.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
