What happens

Henry Brougham, a bishop, is struggling to raise funds for a new cathedral while his wife Julia feels neglected and unhappy. A mysterious stranger named Dudley arrives, claiming to be an angel sent to help Henry with his troubles. Dudley begins assisting Henry with his work, meeting Julia, Professor Wutheridge, and the cathedral committee members around town. Henry remains doubtful of Dudley's claims as strange events unfold. This Lux Radio Theatre adaptation of the film The Bishop's Wife stars Cary Grant and Phyllis Baxter and aired on May 11, 1953.

A large city in winter, around Christmas, including the bishop's home, a cathedral committee office, a restaurant, and a city park.

Characters: Henry Brougham, Julia, Dudley, Professor Wutheridge, Debbie, Matilda, Mrs. Hamilton, Miss Cassaway

Listen for: Dudley's conversations with Henry and Julia, and the story Dudley tells Debbie about David and the lion.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
